Celebration of Founder's Day by AMU Women's College.


On 2nd feb 2023, Women's College , Amu, Aligarh celebrated it's Founder's Day after a long covid break in College Auditorium. Founder's Day is celebrated each year on this day to commemorate marriage anniversary of Sheikh Abdullah popularly known as "Papa Mian" and Begum Waheed Jahan known by the title "Alaa Bi".Women's College has the unique distinction of celebrating its Founder's Day on a marriage anniversary and not a birth anniversary, honouring the contribution and efforts of Begum Waheed Jahan in establishing and managing the college. 

The celebration began with the recitation of holy Quran by  Amatur Rehman. The program was hosted by Dr. Humaira M Afridi which was followed by welcome address by Prof. Nazia Hasan. Plants and Paintings of BFA final year students were displayed  and were presented to the Guest of honours and Chief Guest by the Volunteers. Choir was invited on stage to perform College Tarana. The Annual Report of students achievements of the college in various fields was read by our Principal Prof. Naima Khatoon. A beautiful ghazal was sung by Arshi Zaheer. 

Guest of Honour 'Dr. Hameeda Tariq was invited on podium with a shower of flowers . She motivated young girls and emphasized on three important factors of women empowerment i.e. Education, financial empowerment and decision making power and she quoted "Its not just beti bachao beti padhao, it's kamao too".Release of books of many teachers took place namely 'Tabeer e khwab' hindi translation of Sheikh Abdullah work by Dr. Shagufta Niazi, 'Blooming Flowers' by Prof. Munira T, 'Do Kinare ' by Dr. Sarwar Sajid and so on. college magazine was also released on this occasion. 'Chaap Tilak' a brij language Lok Geet was performed by musical choir. The performance was amazing, whole auditorium was overjoyed by the performance. Another Guest of Honour Prof. Mohammad Gulrez Pro Vice chancellor, AMU addressed the students. He wishes them good luck for their bright future and ended his words by a very famous couplet " Dekh zinda se pare rang e chaman josh e bahar, raqs karna hai to phir paun ki zanjeer na dekh ".

The Chief Guest of the celebration Prof. Aamna Kishore was introduced by the host . She blessed the students and expressed her immense love for aligarh and love given to her by Aligarh. She added ' when I came here I was an outsider, with the pride of being a city girl I said I won't last here for even one year but I lasted here for 38 years '.At last she gave Rs 10,000 to musical choir as she loved their lok geet performance.Musical Choir again came on stage to showcase  their talent and presented a group song " Nagma- e- aligarh". Presidential remarks were given by Prof. Tariq Mansoor, Vice Chancellor , Amu. He congratulated everyone on founder's day and  emphasized on history of women's college . In the end he promised to give Rs 10 lakh to Women's College staff and students and Rs 15,000 to Musical choir for their wonderful performance from Vice Chancellor's Fund.

The program was ended by  'vote of thanks' by Dr. Bushra Hussain which was followed by University Tarana and National Anthem.
