Aligarh Muslim University declared holiday on Janmashtami on 14th August.
Aligarh, August 12:
The Aligarh Muslim University will observe a holiday on August 14 on account of Janmashtami. A notification has been issued by the Office of the Registrar, AMU.
However due to the last date of admissions of various courses, some offices will remain open. They are the offices of the deans of faculties and chairpersons of various departments except the Faculty of Medicine, Controller’s Office, and Finance Office.
The Offices that shall remain open on 14.08.2017 till 12:00 night
1.All offices of the deans of the faculties
2.Offices of the chairman of the departments except the departments under faculty of medicine.
3.Controller's office
4. Finance office
5. Principals office , Women's college.
6.Principals office , University polytechnic (boys)
7. Principal's office , Womens polytechnic.

Krishna janamashtami Known variously as "Janmashtami", "Gokulashtami" or "Gupt Vrindavan", the sacred occassion dedicated in honour of Lord Krishna marks his birth anniversary and has been observed for centuries in India, not only by Hindus but by many members of other religious communities.Krishna Janmashtami , also known simply as Janmashtami, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. It is observed according to Hindu luni-solar calendar, on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the month of Shravana, which overlaps with August and September of the Gregorian calendar.
It is an important festival particularly to the Vaishnavism tradition of Hinduism.
